Privacy policy

Last updated 7 October 2026.

Snare Aware (NPO 251-337) respects your privacy and handles personal information in line with South Africa's Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). This page explains what this website does and does not collect.

What this website collects

This website has no accounts, forms, advertising or analytics, and it sets no cookies. We do not collect personal information through it.

The site is hosted on GitHub Pages. Like any web host, GitHub records technical information such as your IP address when you load a page, for security and to keep the service running. We do not have access to those logs. See GitHub's privacy statement for details.

When you contact us

We ask you to contact us through Facebook Messenger or Instagram. Anything you send us there is also handled by Meta under its own privacy policy. We use what you tell us only to respond to you and to act on reports of snares or poaching.

Reports are treated confidentially. We do not publish the identity of people who report to us, and we share information with conservation or law enforcement partners only where that is needed to act on a report.

When you donate

Donations are processed by third parties: BackaBuddy, Zapper or your bank. We never see or store your card details. Those services handle your information under their own privacy policies, and we receive only what they pass on to us, such as your name and the amount, if you choose to share it.

Links to other sites

This site links to social media, news articles and payment services. We are not responsible for the privacy practices of those sites.

Your rights

You may ask us what personal information we hold about you, and ask us to correct or delete it. To do so, send us a private message on Facebook Messenger. You also have the right to complain to South Africa's Information Regulator.

Changes

We may update this policy from time to time. The date at the top shows the latest version.
